Major road closures in Toronto on May 31, 2026, will heavily impact travel across the city due to the annual Bike for Brain Health event and ongoing infrastructure work. Avoid driving these routes unless necessary, and rely on 511 Ontario or the City of Toronto Road Restrictions page to actively map out your detours.
Major Event Closures (2:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
Large-scale closures will be in place across major expressways for the 2026 Bike for Brain Health charity cycling event:
Don Valley Parkway (DVP): Closed in both directions from Lake Shore Boulevard to Highway 401.
Gardiner Expressway: Closed in both directions from South Kingsway to the Don Valley Parkway.
Highway Ramps: Closures apply to all on/off ramps along the closed stretches of the DVP and Gardiner Expressway, including ramps at Rees Street, Spadina Avenue, Jameson Avenue, and South Kingsway.
Long-Term Construction & Lane Reductions
Wellesley Street East: Between Jarvis Street and Parliament Street, westbound traffic is reduced to one shared lane, and the road is fully closed to eastbound traffic to accommodate watermain replacements and safety upgrades.
Gardiner Expressway (Etobicoke): Westbound lanes are reduced from four to three between Park Lawn Road and Grand Avenue until December 2026.
Transit Disruption Notices
The road and highway shutdowns are compounded by major public transit outages, which will force more local traffic onto surface streets.
TTC Line 2: Subway service will be suspended between Jane and Ossington stations. Shuttle buses will replace trains.
GO Transit: Trains will not be running on the entire Barrie GO Line or on the Lakeshore West Line between Aldershot and Mimico stations.
