What is the Bread Beside the Altar? • Що таке хліб біля вівтаря?

On Pascha we will see a tall loaf of bread on a pedestal to the right of the Holy Gates of the altar. This bread is called artos. It is a leavened (yeast) bread that is stamped with an image of the Cross or the Resurrection.

This special Artos is consecrated at the close of the Paschal Liturgy in memory of the Risen Christ, Who is "the Bread of Life Eternal descended from Heaven and nourishing us with the food of His divine mercies." On the next Saturday, after the Liturgy, it is broken and distributed in the place of Antidoron.

На Пасху ми бачимо високу хлібину на постаменті праворуч від Святих Воріт вівтаря. Цей хліб називається артос. Це квасний (дріжджовий) хліб на якому викарбувано зображення Хреста або Воскресіння.

Цей особливий артос освячується на завершення Пасхальної Літургії в пам'ять про Воскреслого Христа, Який є "Хліб життя вічного, що зійшов з небес і живить нас їжею Своїх божественних милостей". Наступної суботи, після Літургії, його розламують і роздають на місці Антидору.
