Thanksgiving Potluck at the Cathedral 2026

On Sunday, October 11, 2026, on the eve of Thanksgiving Day, our parish family gathered at the Cathedral to give thanks — first in church, and then around the table. After the Divine Liturgy, we served a Moleben of Thanksgiving, and from the church everyone made their way to the Cathedral Hall, where the Thanksgiving Potluck — by now a good tradition at our Cathedral — was waiting.

And it was worth the wait: the hall smelled of roast turkey. Our volunteers had prepared the turkey and the gravy, set the tables, and taken care of everything that makes a room feel welcoming — so that everyone who walked in felt expected. Around the turkey, the table filled up with the dishes that families brought to share. That is the joy of a potluck: no two dishes are alike, and behind each one is someone's kitchen, someone's recipe, and someone's care. There was plenty of food, plenty of time, and even more conversation.

For us, thanksgiving did not begin in the hall. The very word Eucharist means “thanksgiving,” and every Divine Liturgy is thanksgiving to God. At the Moleben we gave thanks for the harvest and for our daily bread, for the country that has become home to so many of us, and for one another — for the community into which God has gathered us. And with our thanksgiving, as always, we offered our prayer for Ukraine. At the table, that thanksgiving simply continued in the most ordinary and most human way there is: by sharing food with one another.

Our heartfelt thanks go to our volunteers, who gave this day their time, their work, and their care — for the turkey and the gravy, for the tables, and for the warm welcome that made the hall feel like home. Thank you to everyone who brought a dish to share, and to everyone who stayed to help clean up. May God bless you for your service, kindness, and generosity!

And our next family gathering is just around the corner. On Saturday, October 31, at 5:00 PM, we invite families with children to the Cathedral for the Night of All Saints — an evening of prayer, a film, crafts and games for the kids, and snacks!

Thank you for sharing your table — and your Thanksgiving — with us. May this good tradition continue in our parish for many years to come!
