Yordans’ka Vecherya at the Cathedral (Photos)
On Monday, January 5, 2026, at St. Volodymyr Cathedral in Toronto, the first major event of the new year took place — Yordans’ka Vecherya. The central symbol of this celebration is holy water, representing purification, renewal, and life itself. Our deeply respected clergy blessed the water, and that evening, parishioners were sprinkled and blessed. They were also able to take holy water home as a tangible reminder of this special day and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Following the solemn Divine Liturgy, a festive supper was held, catered by Hoyra Restaurant, which exceeded all expectations with its taste, variety, and the tremendous care and effort put into every dish. Everyone left well-fed, content, and with the opportunity to take some food home.
The evening's cultural program left no one indifferent. Students of the Saturday School of St. Volodymyr Cathedral performed under the constant and attentive leadership of the school director, Mrs. Tetiana Sunak. She shared that the students of her school come from all corners of Ukraine. After the children’s performance, Ms. Sunak was presented with a donation from the Cathedral and a commemorative 2026 calendar from the Cathedral community.
Following this, the beloved and highly respected Cathedral Choir — dear to the heart of every parishioner — performed under the unwavering leadership of Andriy Dmytrovych. The choir performed classical works accompanied by piano and pieces featuring wind instruments. Everyone with talent and a desire to join the choir is always welcome — the doors are open. As Andriy Dmytrovych reminded us, no matter how difficult the situation in Ukraine may be, people continue to light the candle of hope on their Christmas tables across the country. Therefore, in Canada, we must also preserve and nurture our Ukrainian identity.
During these dark and challenging times for our people, a new wave of newcomers from Ukraine has brought fresh energy and renewed life to our parish. We are deeply grateful for this, said Parish President Franko Diakovskyi.
As Father Jaroslaw rightly noted at the conclusion of the evening, thanking all guests, staff, and volunteers, it is a great historical mission and honor to recognize the immense work carried out by our deeply respected previous generations of Ukrainians — those who preserved, revived, and continue to develop, far from their native land, a centre of culture, faith, language, and a sense of our ancestral home.
The light of Yordans’ka Vecherya brought together in one large, beautifully decorated hall parishioners of all ages — from those well into their ninth decade of life to tiny infants. This is a powerful testament that the centennial slogan of our parish, “Celebrating the Past, Building Our Future,” truly reflects the bond and unity between generations and the continuity of life moving forward.
This was the first—and a wonderfully faith-filled and uplifting—event in a series of celebrations planned for this very special centennial year of our parish.

Відбулася Йорданська вечеря у Катедрі
У понеділок 5 січня 2026 у Катедрі Св. Володимира в Торонто відбувся перший цьогоріч великий захід: Йорданська вечеря. Головним символом торжества є свята вода, як символ очищення, оновлення і самого життя. Наше глибоко поважне духовенство освятило воду, а того вечора парафіяни були окроплені та благословенні, а також взяли додому воду, що є втіленням цього особливого дня у присутність Духа Святого.
Після урочистої Божественної літургії відбулася святкова вечеря з кейтиреном від ресторану Hoyra, що перевершила всі очікування та смаком, різноманіттям та великою працею, вкладеною в кожну страву! Всі були ситі, задоволені та мали можливість взяти деякі наїдки з собою.
Культурна програма вечора не залишила нікого байдужим, адже виступали учні Суботньої та Недільної шкіл при Катедрі Свого Володимира, під незмінним чуйним керівництвом директорки школи Тетяни Сунак. Вона розповіла що учні її шкіл родом з усіх куточків України. Після виступу дітей пані директорці було вручено пожертву від Катедри та памʼятний календар на 2026 рік від Собору.
Затим всіма шанований, рідний серцю кожному парафіянину нашої парафії, Катедральний хор під незмінним лідерством Андрія Дмитровича виконували твори класичної музики під акомпанементом фортепіано, а також виступ хору з духовими інструментами. Всіх охочих, що мають талант та бажання долучитися до хору - завжди відкриті двері. Як би не було важко в Україні зараз, люди незгасною вірою запалюють свічку надії на своїх Різдвяних столах у всіх куточках України, тому і ми тут в Канаді маємо берегти і плекати українство в собі, нагадував Андрій Дмитрович.
Під час таких темних, важких часів випробувань для нашого народу нова хвиля новоприбулих з України дала поштовх та нове дихання нашій парафії і ми безмірно цьому раді, сказав президент парафії Франко Дяковський.
Як вірно зазначив отець Ярослав наприкінці вечора, дякуючи всім гостям, працівникам, волонтерам… Великою історичною місією, честю усвідомлювати те, яка титанічна праця була виконана нашими глибоко шанованими попередніми поколіннями українців, що зберегли, відродили та розвивають так далеко від рідної землі осередок культури, релігії, мови та відчуття Батьківського дому.
Світло Йорданської вечері зібрало одній великій, ошатній залі так багато парафіян різного віку: тих, чий вік вже перевалив за девʼятий десяток, та зовсім крихітних немовлят. Це знаменує що слоган сторіччя нашої парафії «Святкуємо минуле, будуючи наше майбутнє» якнайкраще відображує звʼязок та єдність поколінь та безперервність життя та руху у майбутнє.
Це був перший і такий неймовірно осяяний вірою та добром захід у плеяді інших свят, запланований цього особливого року сторіччя парафії!
До нових щирих, щемливих зустрічей, дорога парафіяльна родино!
