Expect major traffic disruptions in Toronto on July 5, 2026, driven by FIFA World Cup 2026 match-day restrictions and ongoing weekend festivals. Drivers should avoid the Exhibition Place, Liberty Village, and Fort York areas entirely, as strict 10-hour road closures are in effect around the stadium.

FIFA World Cup Match Day Closures

Exhibition Place and surrounding neighbourhoods enforce heavy, localized closures starting 5 hours before kickoff and lasting until 3 hours after the match.

  • Vehicle & Bike Restrictions: The following streets will be closed to motor vehicles and bicycles:

    • Lake Shore Boulevard West (around Exhibition Place)

    • Strachan Avenue

    • Dufferin Street (around Exhibition Place)

    • Princes' Boulevard and Ontario Drive

    • British Columbia Drive and Saskatchewan Road

Construction & Highway Work

  • Highway 401 Eastbound: Three alternating lanes are closed nightly between Yonge Street and Don Mills Road from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

  • Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW): Expect nightly alternating lane reductions for Fort Erie-bound traffic from The East Mall in Toronto to Bronte Road in Oakville, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Public Transit Adjustments

The City of Toronto and event organizers strictly enforce a transit-first strategy, with zero public parking permitted at the stadium or nearby hubs.

  • Fans and commuters are highly encouraged to leave their cars at home and rely on the TTC and GO Transit.

  • TTC Reroutes: Be aware of detours and added service on the 29 Dufferin, 511 Bathurst, 510 Spadina, and 509 streetcar lines.
