“Mother — a Tender Ray of God’s Love”
On Sunday, May 10, 2026, our cathedral was filled with a special warmth, light, and tenderness as our parish family gathered to celebrate Mother’s Day. Children, parents, and parishioners came together to honour the dearest person in each of our lives — our mother.
The celebration began with the Divine Liturgy. At its conclusion, Fr. Vasyl addressed the parish with a heartfelt word about the truth that a mother is God’s blessing for every family. Together we prayed for our mothers and grandmothers and for all the women of our parish family, asking the Lord to grant them many happy and blessed years.
The program was beautifully titled “Mother — a Tender Ray of God’s Love,” and from the first moment to the last, it lived up to its name. Our host opened the celebration with the words of Holy Scripture:
“She is strong and dignified; she looks to the future with a smile. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and gentle teaching is on her tongue” (Proverbs 31:25–26).
These words set the tone for the entire day — a day of prayer, family, and heartfelt gratitude.
The children of our parish prepared a touching presentation that brought to life the biblical images of mothers. We heard the stories of Eve, the mother of all humanity; of courageous Jochebed, who saved the young Moses; of prayerful Hannah, who gave her son Samuel into the service of God; and of the Most Holy Virgin Mary — the model of humility, sacrifice, and motherly love. Each image reminded us that motherhood is a calling blessed by the Lord Himself.
The audience was especially moved by the short scene “A Conversation with God,” in which a little soul, before coming down to earth, asks God how she will manage among people. The Lord answers that He will send her an Angel who will teach her the language of tenderness, love, and prayer — and the Angel’s name is MAMA.
Children recited poems — the bright and simple “Mama! Mama! — what a beautiful word…” as well as a composition based on the poetry of Hanna Chubach, “The Truth of a Woman’s Heart,” which speaks of how a woman comes into this world for love — to love her mother, her child, her home, the sky, and her native land. A gentle parable about the mother’s heart was also shared — about that special “sight of love” with which the Lord has gifted every mother.
A particularly special part of the celebration was a mini-interview with the children. They were asked why they love their moms, what their mom cooks best, when their mom becomes a real superhero, what their mom smells like, and how she heals every hurt. The children’s answers were innocent, wise, funny, and endlessly tender — the kind of words only a child can say about the most precious person in the world.
Our host then offered words of special gratitude to Ukrainian mothers — those who can “feed ten people from nothing,” cry quietly so their children do not see, work all day and still ask in the evening, “Have you eaten?” We also remembered the mothers who began a new life in Canada — learning a new language, working hard, worrying for their children, missing home, and never giving up. You are an example of courage for your children.
For some, our mother was here with us in the hall today. For some, she is far away in Ukraine. For some, she is already in heaven — but always in our hearts. And though the distances may be great, a mother’s love is greater than any kilometres. A mother’s prayers fly faster than airplanes, a mother’s tears are the first to be seen by God, and a mother’s hope holds a family together even in the most difficult times.
At the close of the program, the children took turns thanking their mothers — for the gift of life, for patience, for kind words, for prayers, for hugs. Each mother then received a special gift — a flower made with the loving hands of her own child, warm embraces, and words of love, accompanied by gentle music and a video tribute. Roses bloomed throughout our church and parish hall that day — pink, cream, and deep crimson — a symbol of the tenderness with which we wish to look upon our mothers every single day.
We sincerely thank everyone who poured their hearts and labour into preparing this blessed day — our host, the children, their teachers and parents, our parish family, and all who prayed alongside us.
Dear mothers, your hands are the hands that bless. Your tears are prayers for us. Your love is a reflection of God’s love. May the Lord bless you with health, peace, and joy, and may love always reign in your hearts.
Свято Матері у Катедрі святого Володимира
“Мама — ніжний промінь Божої любові”
У неділю, 10 травня 2026 року, наша катедра наповнилася особливим теплом, світлом і ніжністю — ми разом святкували День Матері. Цього дня діти, батьки та парафіяни зібралися, щоб вклонитися найдорожчій людині у житті кожного з нас — мамі.
Святкування розпочалося з Божественної Літургії. На завершення Літургії отець Василь звернувся до парафіян зворушливим словом про те, що мама — це Боже благословення для кожної родини. Спільно ми молилися за наших матерів і бабусь та за всіх жінок нашої парафіяльної родини, просячи у Господа, щоб Він дарував їм многії і благії літа.
Святкову програму було натхненно названо “Мама — ніжний промінь Божої любові”, і саме такою вона стала від першої до останньої хвилини. Ведуча відкрила свято словами Святого Письма:
“Вона — сильна і велична, вона дивиться в майбутнє з усмішкою. Уста свої відкриває з мудрістю, і лагідне повчання на язику її” (Притчі 31:25–26).
Ці слова задали тон усьому дню — день молитовний, родинний, сповнений вдячності.
Діти нашої парафії підготували зворушливу композицію, в якій оживали біблійні образи матерів. Прозвучали оповіді про Єву — матір усього людства, про мужню Йохавед, яка врятувала маленького Мойсея, про молитовницю Анну, яка віддала свого сина Самуїла на служіння Богові, і про Пречисту Діву Марію — взірець смирення, жертовності та материнської любові. Кожен образ нагадав нам про те, що материнство — це покликання, благословенне самим Господом.
Особливо тепло слухачі сприйняли інсценізацію «Божа розмова», у якій маленька душа перед приходом на землю запитує Бога, як вона буде жити серед людей. І Господь відповідає, що подарує їй Ангела, який навчатиме її мови ніжності, любові та молитви. Ім’я цього Ангела — МАМА.
Діти декламували вірші — світлий і простий «Мама! Мама! — гарне слово…», а також композицію за поезіями Ганни Чубач «Правда жіночого серця», у якій звучали слова, що жінка приходить у світ для любові — любити маму, дитину, дім, небо, рідну землю. Прозвучала і притча про материнське серце — про той особливий «зір любові», яким Господь обдарував кожну маму.
Окремою особливою частиною свята стало міні-інтерв’ю з дітьми. Малечу запитували, за що вони люблять своїх мам, що мама готує найсмачніше, коли мама стає справжнім супергероєм, чим мама пахне, як вона лікує, коли боляче. Відповіді дітей були наївними, мудрими, кумедними і нескінченно ніжними — саме такими, які можуть прозвучати лише з вуст дитини про найдорожчу людину у світі.
Ведуча звернулася зі словами особливої вдячності до українських мам — тих, хто вміє «нагодувати десятьох з нічого», плакати тихенько, щоб діти не бачили, працювати весь день і ще ввечері запитати: «Ти їв?». Ми згадали і тих мам, які почали нове життя в Канаді — вчать нову мову, важко працюють, хвилюються за дітей, сумують за домом — але не здаються. Ви — приклад мужності для своїх дітей.
Для когось мама сьогодні була поруч у залі. Для когось — далеко в Україні. Для когось — уже в небі, але завжди в серці. І хоч відстані бувають великі, материнська любов більша за будь-які кілометри. Мамині молитви летять швидше за літаки, мамині сльози Бог бачить першими, а материнська надія тримає родину навіть у найважчі часи.
На завершення діти по черзі дякували своїм мамам — за життя, за терпіння, за добрі слова, за молитви, за обійми. А потім кожна мама отримала особливий подарунок — власноруч зроблену квітку від своєї дитини, обійми і слова любові під зворушливу музику та відеоряд. У храмі та у залі того дня цвіли троянди — рожеві, кремові, пурпурові — як символ ніжності, з якою ми хочемо щодня дивитися на наших мам.
Ми щиро дякуємо усім, хто доклав серця і праці до підготовки цього благословенного дня — ведучій, дітям, їхнім педагогам та батькам, парафіяльній родині та всім, хто молився разом з нами.
Дорогі наші мами! Ваші руки — це руки, які благословляють. Ваші сльози — це молитви за нас. Ваша любов — це відблиск Божої любові. Нехай Господь благословить вас здоров’ям, миром і радістю, і нехай у ваших серцях завжди панує любов.
