The festive Ukrainian dinner prepared by Hoyra Gastrobar

As we enter our centennial year and reflect on our past, one of the most cherished traditions and fondest memories for families at the Cathedral was the Family Malanka. This wonderful event was organized for the first time over 30 years ago and brought our families together to celebrate the new year, dancing the night away to Ukrainian music and sharing delicious traditional Ukrainian foods.

We are excited to announce St Volodymyr Cathedral, together with the St Volodymyr Ukrainian School, will be bringing this special family tradition back to a new generation as we host our Family Malanka on January 17th, 2026, at St. Volodymyr Cathedral.

The evening will begin with a delicious meal created by HOYRA GASTROBAR featuring a selection of traditional Ukrainian dishes with a contemporary flair — warm, comforting, and full of flavour.

The Pleskach Folk Band

The featured performers include Pleskach Folk Band, dedicated to promoting and preserving Ukrainian traditional music, with a particular focus on Ukrainian dancing music. The band brings together talented musicians who share a passion for celebrating Ukraine’s rich musical heritage and will have families dancing and celebrating together throughout the evening.

The Pleskach Folk Band will be joined by a number of other performers, including Malva, a talented duet dedicated to popularizing the beauty of Ukrainian song through their inspiring and uplifting performances.

The 2026 Family Malanka promises to be a wonderful evening! We look forward to seeing you there.
