Expressions in Art Show and Sale celebrated its 19th anniversary on November 2 – 4, 2007 at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre. Шановна громадо! Дякуємо за підтримку! Once again, thank you for a tremendous turnout at the opening wine and canapé evening. Art enthusiasts responded outstandingly to our chapel fundraising endeavor for a third year. chapel fundraising goal referring to large schematics and drawings, which everyone could view during the evening. This year, 44 artists were invited to represent various media - oils, acrylics, water colours, ceramics, glass, and jewellery. There were many positive comments about the look and feel of this year’s show. Thank you talented artists for your impressive works and displays. New this year was the “Collectors’ Corner”, where we resold paintings from other eras, from estates and from works of art by artists who have passed on. As always, the success of this year’s three day Art Show was due to the hardworking and dedicated committee being Ludmyla Reszytniak, Annie Mishchenko, Maria Shapka, Nadia Hunt, Lesia Tymochenko, Ludmila Lavrinuk and Olga Adamec. The committee was chaired by Olya Janschula, as well, we had Raya Shadursky (communications), and Oksana Rewa (décor). Our volunteer helpers deserve immeasurable thanks for stepping up to the challenge of opening night. We thank Kathy Podopryhora (Flowerland, Brampton), Lesia Haley ( Ukrainian Museum of Canada), Liza Zwirchowsky, Tania Blysniuk, Luba Andrews, Kathy Matkowskyj, Judy Samoluk, Valia Halievska, Luba Pryszlak, and the gentlemen volunteers Walter Reszytniak(wine master), Lee Janschula (wine server, photographer), Valentin Lavrinuk (head of security), Eugene Shapka (security) and Nick Mishchenko (security). Also thanks to Eugene Shapka and Dennis Hunt for volunteering on Thursday – our set-up day. A great job done by all ! The committee also thanks St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral president Walter Chewchuk, the administration and church executive, as well as Valia of the caretaking staff and Directors of St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre for their ongoing support. A donated painting by Halyna Novakiwska, whose starting bid was $270 – sold for $1,100!! Congratulations to all silent auction winners and “дякуємо щиро” to the artists for their donated works. We extend a warm invitation for next year’s Gala 20th anniversary Expressions in Art Show and Sale on November 7th, 8th, and 9th, 2008. This year, our contribution to the Chapel Building Fund will be $11,000. The ground-breaking ceremony for the chapel, which will be located next to St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre, will take place some time in May 2008. Remember to mark your calendar. We need your support.
