Our Mission: “To foster a caring, supportive and positive environment for children to learn Ukrainian as a second language”.

The School
The Ukrainian School at St. Volodymyr was established in the 1950s. The school is located at 406 Bathurst Street in downtown Toronto (between College & Dundas Sts.) Our school recognizes that children in today’s Canadian society have varying levels of Ukrainian language ability and comprehension. The teachers at St. Volodymyr Ukrainian School successfully address the needs of children beginning to learn Ukrainian, as well as those with advanced knowledge.
We offer a Saturday morning program for children from Sadochok (kindergarten) to Kursy (secondary school level). We encourage language acquisition and appreciation of Ukrainian culture and heritage. The Ukrainian School at St. Volodymyr offers interaction with children from various Ukrainian communities in the GTA and beyond. This program is suited for children of Ukrainian heritage who may not regularly speak Ukrainian at home

Curriculum
The curriculum involves the use of many tools, including
• Nova program - an oral based language learning program supported by audio visual materials for grades 1-6
• “Tut i Tam” - a series of readers and workbooks for grades 1-7
• “Chytanka” - a reader series by Bodnarchuk, includes workbooks, for grades 2-5
• Cultural Studies - with emphasis on Ukrainian traditions with explanations in English, in each grade
• Singing for all grades
• Kursy program for grade 8 to 11, with oral and written work taught in Ukrainian; History, Geography taught in English

Extra Curricular Activities
Extra curricular activities are used to promote the interest of our students and to encourage others to join us. We traditionally hold two concerts; one for St. Nicholas and one at the end of the school year. We also visit people’s homes and nursing homes for "koliada" (Christmas caroling). We also plan school excursions and guest visitors to visit our school to create interest in the curriculum. Past trips include the Royal Ontario Museum (Legacy in Gold exhibit) and a visit by well-known comedian, Luba Goy of the Royal Canadian Air Farce.

Parents’ Association
The Parents’ Association supports the teachers and students of St. Volodymyr School and helps foster a sense of Ukrainian community in a positive environment. The Parents’ Association actively supports our school through fundraising and by organizing opportunities for social interaction, including:
pizza days at school, family Malankas, family bingos, winterfest activities

We are very supportive and enthusiastic about the future of our Ukrainian School and welcome your support.
