First Confession of our Children The Pentecostal period - from Easter to Pentecost (Zeleni Sviata) - is the time when seven-year-old pupils of our Sunday School would have their First Confession and First Communion. Our Parish had this special event on Sunday June 1 and 22. Any children’s celebration is usually a joyous event. This First Confession and First Communion was a real feastday for everybody: for children, their parents, their Priest, their teachers and for all the parishioners of our Cathedral. Thirty little enthusiastic Christians are a pleasant addition to our ‘every Sunday’ Church attendance. These young souls bring joy and moments of happiness into our hearts. They inspire only positive feelings because they shine with kindness, carefree happiness and love for all. It is always a pleasure to see and share their joys. |

On this occasion I would like to show my respect and express my thanks to the parents who love their children and care so much about them. Dear parents, you have strived to provide opportunities for the most varied development of your children. Spiritual growth is the most important for a child because it will influence the most important sphere of a person’s life: their behaviour towards their friends, their future family, grand-parents, and to you, parents. It will also affect their relationship to the natural world around them. I would like thank you for your time and excellent care for your children. On this occasion, I would like to acknowledge the commitment of the following parents: Anna Talik, Natalka and Mike Lewicky, Lydia and Mark Javor, Valentyna and Valeriy Galatsan, Laryssa and Greg Signarovsky, Greg Machula. Take pride in your sons and daughters who now have the inner strength to achieve their dreams. And you can do this because you have educated them in the best possible way. |

I would like to thank Fr. Bohdan Sencio for his love to all the children, for his care and initiative towards this event. On Saturdays and Sundays Father, with pleasure, confessed all the children and their parents who set a nice example. Father Bohdan greeted all the participants for this important occasion, and handed out special gifts for all holy icons of Jesus Christ and Mary Theotokos to accompany and protect their souls their whole lives |

Participants in First Confession and Communion have attended Sunday school. During this time, the children studied important truths about God and our Ukrainian Orthodox rite. They enjoyed exciting sessions about the Creation of the world, Angels, Christ’s Life and His mission, Christ’s Cross, Resurrection, Confession, Communion, Prayer, Icons and other of major importance topics. Children learn best by being engaged in concrete experience. They understand and remember 20% of what they hear, but 90% of what they do and hear. That is why in the Sunday school lessons our children enjoy many hands-on experiences and creative interactive activities. These interesting real-life experiences help children to better understand the God stories. |
